Video Surveillance Systems

Whether you require a straightforward, residential plug-and-play setup or a sophisticated, multi-server infrastructure spanning several sites, Matter Integration Ltd possesses the technical depth and industry expertise to deliver. We recognise that security is never a "one-size-fits-all" product; it is a critical service that must adapt to the specific nuances of your environment.

What's right for us?

Should I choose an IP (Network) or Analog (HD-TVI/CVI) system?

IP Systems: These are the modern standard. They offer higher resolutions, better features (like AI analytics), and are easier to scale. They run over standard network cabling (Cat6).

Analog Systems: Best for budget-conscious projects or sites where old coaxial cabling is already in place. Modern HD-Analog is impressive, but lacks the advanced intelligence of IP.

Is 4K always the best choice for resolution?

Not necessarily. While 4K offers incredible detail, it requires significantly more storage and performs poorly in low light compared to a high-quality 4MP (2K) camera. For most general surveillance, 4MP to 5MP provides the "sweet spot" between clarity and efficiency.

Don’t be fooled by the marketing hype: more megapixels doesn't automatically mean a better image. While a higher pixel count can provide more detail for digital zooming, it’s often a secondary factor in true security performance.

What is the difference between a Dome, Bullet, and PTZ camera?

Dome: Discreet and vandal-resistant. Ideal for indoor use or low-hanging outdoor areas.

Bullet: Highly visible, acting as a strong deterrent. Great for long-range outdoor viewing.

PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom): Can be moved remotely. Best for active monitoring of large areas like parking lots, though they can only "look" at one spot at a time.

Do I need "Full Colour" night vision or Infrared (IR)?

Infrared (IR): The classic choice. It produces black-and-white images in total darkness. It is discreet because the "glow" is minimal.

Full Colour: Uses high-sensitivity sensors and often a small warm light to provide color images 24/7. This is superior for identifying clothing or vehicle colors at night.

How much storage space do I actually need?

We generally recommend a minimum of 30 days of recording. The amount of hard drive space required depends on:

  • The number of cameras.
  • The resolution (e.g., 4K vs. 1080p).
  • Whether you record 24/7 or only on "Motion/AI Detection."

What are "Smart Analytics"?

Modern cameras can now distinguish between a human, a vehicle, and a stray animal. This means you won't get "false alarm" notifications every time a tree blows in the wind or a cat walks past.

Why should I consider Thermal CCTV for intruder detection?

Operation in Total Darkness: Unlike standard cameras that require "white light" or infrared (IR) illuminators, thermal cameras need no light whatsoever. They "see" perfectly in pitch-black conditions where traditional cameras would be blind.

Superiority in Adverse Weather: Standard cameras struggle to see through thick fog, smoke, or driving rain. While extreme weather can affect any sensor, thermal technology cuts through atmospheric obstructions far more effectively, maintaining detection capabilities when visibility for the human eye drops to zero.

Long-Range Detection: Thermal sensors can pick up a human heat signature from hundreds of metres away. This allows for a much larger "buffer zone" around your property, giving you significantly more time to respond to a potential breach.

Reliable Analytics & Fewer False Alarms: Traditional motion detection is often triggered by swaying branches, insects, or heavy snow. Thermal cameras ignore these distractions, focusing only on "heat-generating" targets like intruders or vehicles. This drastically reduces the number of nuisance alerts sent to your phone or monitoring station.

Defeating Camouflage: An intruder in dark clothing hiding in deep shadows is nearly invisible to a standard camera. To a thermal sensor, their body heat makes them stand out brightly against the cooler background, making it impossible to stay hidden.

What is a VMS?

A VMS (Video Management Software) is the "brain" of your security system. Unlike a standard recorder, a VMS integrates cameras, access control, and alarms into one powerful, easy-to-use interface.

At Matter Integration Ltd, we recommend Milestone XProtect for its unmatched performance:

Open Platform: It works with almost any camera brand, giving you the freedom to choose the best hardware for every spot.

Scalability: Whether you have five cameras or five thousand across multiple sites, Milestone grows with your business effortlessly.

Rapid Search: Its advanced "Smart Search" allows you to find specific incidents in seconds rather than hours.

Reliability: Built for high-stakes environments, it offers enterprise-grade stability and top-tier cybersecurity to keep your data safe.

How do you make sure its right for me?

Every property is different. We don't believe in "box kits." We assess your lighting, entry points, and network capabilities to build a system that provides actual peace of mind, not just a bunch of wires.

Security is about more than just fitting cameras; it’s about strategic integration. We move beyond generic solutions by using high-end modelling software to map out your site's sightlines in advance. This 'design-first' method ensures that your network and hardware are perfectly synchronised to protect what matters most.
