Enhancing Facility Security & Compliance: Extending Milestone XProtect Corporate
Modern commercial security isn't just about recording video—it's about creating an interconnected system that instantly alerts control room operators to real-time risks. We recently completed a project upgrading an existing Milestone XProtect Corporate VMS platform to bridge physical security hardware, smart analytics, and automated compliance tracking.
Key Hardware & Integration Upgrades
To deliver actionable intelligence directly to the client's security team, we integrated hardware-level triggers directly into the video management system.

Advantech ADAM I/O Unit: We installed an Advantech ADAM multi-channel input/output module to act as the primary bridge between physical building triggers and the IP network.

Fire Door & Intruder Alarm Integration: Every fire exit door was interfaced into the system via the intruder alarm. Opening a fire door triggers an instant alarm condition in the central security control room, automatically displaying live video streams of the specific door on the operators' screens.

Arming & Disarming Compliance: The ADAM unit monitors the arming and disarming states of the intruder alarm panel, automatically logging status changes within Milestone to enforce strict site operational compliance.

4x 180° Uniview IP Cameras: We deployed four wide-angle 180-degree Uniview panoramic cameras to deliver seamless blind-spot-free coverage across key operational perimeter zones.
Smart Guardhouse Privacy & Staff Protection
To address staff safety and de-escalate verbal abuse at the entrance, we installed a ceiling-mounted fisheye camera over the guardhouse window—paired with a privacy-first audio automation trigger.

Privacy-Led Audio Recording: To protect staff privacy during routine duties, ambient audio recording is disabled by default.

Smart Window Contact Trigger: Audio recording automatically activates the moment the guardhouse window is opened to deal with a visitor.

Conflict Resolution: This targeted setup captures clear video and audio evidence during active visitor interactions to deter verbal abuse whilst maintaining full compliance with our customers Privacy Impact Assessment.
Edge AI Protection at the Vehicular Barrier
One of the stand-out features of this upgrade was at the site's vehicular entrance barrier. Standard motion detection in high-traffic zones often leads to constant false alarms from passing vehicles or shadows.
To solve this, we utilised Edge AI human detection directly on the Uniview IP camera covering the gate.

Precision Detection: The camera filters out vehicles and environmental movement, triggering only when a human is detected in front of the vehicular barrier.

Active Deterrence: On detection, the system triggers an immediate visual and audible alarm locally at the barrier to warn the individual, whilst simultaneously signalling the control room via Milestone.
By moving from passive recording to active automated deterrence, the client gained complete visibility over critical exit doors, automated compliance logging, privacy-conscious staff protection, and enhanced perimeter safety.
